Conviction Chronicles blog post #18 - Improved Title Screen
This is a smaller blogpost, but it does have enough info to warrant it.
New Game Introduction
When booting the game for the first time, there is a small introduction for "setting up the game's profile." This is mainly so I can set up biases.
This is an idea that Gnosia does where items like what color the player chooses impacts the gameplay in very subtle way with enforcing a starting bias.
This also introduces a character that I have planned out for a couple of months now with some 2D sprites. Their 3D model is in the title screen itself. I don't want to go too in-depth with them, but their design has a bunch of symbolism for their role as an assistant type figure which might come apparent later on.
This scene only happens once, you can answer the questions, or actively try to deny answering them which loads the default answers.
I might have to move it around or change it up later on, and I do have to add the new bias system in based on the answers.
Title Screen Improvements
The title screen is more dynamic in that it moves around depending on what option is selected.
TV Screen
When on Config, it shows a TV screen which randomly changes what is on the screen. Some are ads while others are stuff made with the rhythm game assets. Some are jokes/references while others are more teasing certain ideas.
Bonus screen
The bonus screen shows the assistant's 3D model in the title screen style with a computer screen which connects to what is being selected for the bonus menu. So selecting cheat codes has the cheat code icon on the screen.
Videos/BGM/Gallery
Gallery isn't really setup yet, but videos can the original trailer and the BGM can change the title screens music in that moment. I'm still unsure if I should make it a system that changes the music on start up based on what was last selected. I might but it's not added yet. The BGM has a bunch of songs locked until found in game. I've already realized there are over 100 music tracks in the game's files that are actively used or was used, this isn't even including the music I made not in the game's files yet.
General improvements
Now the game doesn't restart the menu due to a bug when trying to leave the bonus menu, and I tried to make it a little smoother.
Anything else?
Might add some improvements to the title screen before starting to add to the group dynamics. I kind of want to improve some of the animations as well, since some really need it more than others. I personally would like to get some sort of MOCAP setup for myself to make it easier for this instead of doing everything manually, but I have to do more research before I commit. All in the name of making any improvements I can now before the trial code starts where it's going to lock me into it until it's done.
It will be interesting how long everything takes, but I feel it will be worth it. The update won't be live right after this blog post goes online, mainly due to needing to export and upload everything to itch and steam.
