Conviction Chronicles blog post #38 - Aishia + Shanks + Victor Reworks

I'm getting this out of the way so I don't forget about it in the future. Didn't take very long since it's mostly editing functions that already exist. Aishia Rework I was struggling to find a way to make her abilities less defensive/passive for player freedom and to make her more unique to play. I ended up going with a "borrowed time" concept that fits the lore. Aishia, if uninjured, when at 0 energy can gather more energy from herself. This check happens every time Aishia goes to 0 energy until she gets injured. This borrowed energy is removed from the next day. There is a 1 in 10 chance she starts to bleed which has 2 days of recovery. There is no limit to this. So Aishia can theoretically take more energy than she has the next day, starting a day with 0 energy can be a death sentence in of itself. I consider this to be much more of a softer version of Jade. Jade has more weaknesses and strengths to make her abilities permanent while Aishia's effects h...

Conviction Chronicles blog post #37 - Crow + Edgar Reworks

This covers a bit since the Crow reworked worked really well with implementing it along with Edgar's spells. I'm also writing this up before it's mostly done to save time. Susceptibility   This is a -10 to 10 meter from having less to having more where actions are taken at a stronger or weaker degree. Let's say someone wants to do a manipulative event to sway votes with a base of 20. So if someone has -10 for susceptibility, they only are moved by 10 instead of 20. If it's 10, then they are moved by 30 instead. Charisma Like susceptibility, it's -10 to 10, but for your words against others. If someone have a strong charisma, their words have more of an impact. If the charisma is bad, it may backfire on them. This makes things a little more interesting with spoken word dynamics. It also impacts gifting. If a the gifter's charisma is 5 or more, they get a bonus. If it's -5 or less, they get a penalty. If the susceptibility of the giftie is 5 or more, the g...

Conviction Chronicles blog post #36 - Jade rework + Voting Motives

Due to some stuff that happened, I'm reposting the blog posts I make on blogger onto the steam announcements as well as blogger.  Jade Rework I've thought about it, and I think Jade should have more of a cost for dealing with injuries with how aggressive she can support. So I made some changes. 1. Jade cannot heal injuries with drugs, she can still die from them from it's effects. Overdosing only impacts the battery levels instead of outright killing 2. Resting at night doesn't automatically reduce injury levels. Instead of Jade has some metal sheets in her inventory, she will consume them for an accelerated healing. With how easy Metal is to get, it makes it so Jade can quickly and easily repair herself every night, with 3 days removed from the injury level every time this happens. 3. Holding in pee will also damage her internal battery. 4. Having too much energy will overload Jade and cause her battery to be damaged with her energy levels. This will also lower the max...

Conviction Chronicles blog post #35 - Redesigned Wake-up call events

Not much time since the last blog post, but I delayed the last one due to needing some final graphics for the night time section. Investigation theme loader This loads the investigation theme to be played in the background. This has 6 songs in total with a base of 2. Sinners Delight plays based on the amount of trials that have happened already relative to the days selected. So if it's near a limit it plays Hollow Steps with it's variations. If not then it sticks with Sinner's delight with it's variations. It's 2 sets of 3. If the player is completely innocent and haven't murdered anybody during the game, they get an instrumental version of the song. If the player has murdered in the game, then they get the vocalized version for increased intensity and involvement with the game. If 4 or more people have died for the investigation, then a slowed down version with reverb plays to show how major it is. 4 or more people dying can happen naturally through the pool wi...

Conviction Chronicles blog post #34 - Redesigned dream events and desolation graphics

This covers some stuff I mentioned before in previous blog posts but in slightly more detail. Desolation graphics The desolation graphics are graphics that appear before a character is executed in the first trial. Before it was a black screen and some new graphics had to been made for it. Each protag gets a graphic along with Bianca. Right now these are only being used for the first trial, but I might consider adding more to the "body exploration" to showcase these graphics of how they react to seeing a body to give it more depth than what it has right now. Still have no idea if it's possible to even do a body discovery graphic animation like danganronpa has with how dynamic the game is without heavily stylizing it, but it's something to think about for me to do later. Dream events This is the Nightmare events and such. This includes new graphics for the current dream sequences with the unknown dream figure. I've increased his dialogue count to 76 lines instead o...

Conviction Chronicles blog post #33 - Multiple new vocal songs have been released!

10 songs, with 4 vocal and the rest variations. I'm going to count this as my summer album as well. Contacted the same producer and they helped out a lot with the ideas I had. link: https://distrokid.com/hyperfollow/michaelrichardlannon/neon-ashes I'll go over each one with their role. Sinner's Delight + Hollow Steps These are the investigation themes. the one I had before was a placeholder and really didn't fit the quality other aspects of the game has now, so I decided to replace it.  Sinner's delight is the main investigation theme, made to be uplifting, raises the stakes before the trial greatly mentally even further, and is a song meant to be about someone enjoying the chaos they cause. I'm not sure, but I might have it where if the player is innocent, they don't hear the lyrics, but once they have killed someone they will get the lyrical version. Mainly for symbolism. I have to playtest it for a bit. Hollow Steps is the secondary investigation theme th...

Conviction Chronicles blog post #32 - Demo update + E&S Playhouse fully implemented

The demo will be updated as I upload this. Might not be there until it finishes uploading. --E&S Playhouse-- I mentioned the start of this in the last blog post, but this is meant to play when the game boots up to always showcase something new, gives tips, and gives some small lore. There is unique dialogue for every single day of the year, even leap years are considered. It's all short so it only takes up 1 minute, but it adds some extra momentum for the player to give them a slight reward purely for booting the game. Some of the dialogues are similar, but most are made to be unique.  This adds more to the unique factor for players at a baseline, since it feels more personalized when a player plays at a certain date. I personally think adding something so small but so special feeling as a baseline right at the very start of the game will be great for engagement. The idea of this is a better implementation of Lily's Tea Party for advice, which still exists in the bonus menu...
