Conviction Chronicles blog post #43 - The Lawbreaker’s Edict

I talked about the Taboo Roulette already for that aspect of this motive, so I'll go for the rest of it since it's now done. I talked a bit about the general idea of the Lawbreaker's Edict, but it's a motive where the killer can choose a new law to go into effect and if they survive it gets applied.

All of these are suppose to be weaker than normal motives as they become secondary effects. Only one rule can be altered per game, so these don't stack on each other.

The Action Squeeze

Everybody gets a limited max amount of actions per day that is randomized from 5-10. Going over leads to the character being punished with injuries.

Inflation Protocol

The funny name aside, this leads Crafting to have a cost behind it that is based on the date. The longer the game is, the harder it is to craft effectively.

The Price of Lies

This impacts evidence sharing, if anybody tells a fabricated lie they have to pay a financial fine that is undisclosed to anybody else. Makes lies effective in other ways with some discouragement if you don't have the finances for it.

Trial of Shadows

Disables most evidence gathering outside of trials. All evidence sharing is disabled.

Blindfold Judgement

Evidence cannot be given out in a trial during the evidence gathering phase.

Taboo Roulette

I made a blog post before about everything in this, you can view all of it there.

Blood-for-Bandages Exchange

If anybody is injured at the end of the night, they are fully healed and they gain an influence point for every night they go to bed injured. This rule makes combat more lucrative but gives an instant tell if only you have a boost in influence points.

The Private Inquisition

During 1 on 1 events both parties can ask each other 1 of 3 questions: Are you the mole? Are you a killer? What is the most important evidence you have on you? The first time this is asked every day it must be truthful, but everything else can be a lie. This is made to flood the game full of evidence that can make it easier to figure out who is a mole and who isn't, along with who started the previous trials, over time instead of instantly.

The Void Verdict

In the trials, this will change the execution vote to be more about who do you want to save instead of who you want to kill. Anybody with 0 votes is executed. Makes the trials more defensive than aggressive with how quickly bodies can fall.

The Hanging Clock

The idea behind this is those chosen for execution has a delay before their death where they have to plead their case for a vote to either save them or allow them to die. If they become saved, they don't die. If not then they are executed. If another trial happens their execution is cancelled. I think doing it that would be better since it gives multiple ways around being executed.

Compulsory Disclosure

Basically this forces evidence sharing more often during 1 on 1 events.

Killer’s Dividend

This gives a huge boost to any killer. For every kill they gain a bonus influence point at the start of a trial. It makes it easier to spot killers as well.

Ripple Economy

Every action starts off with a cost of 0 dollars and increases by 5 for the day for every time it's done. For example working at a work bench costs 5 dollars, if Agatha and Aishia both did it beforehand, it would cost 15 for Cross to do it next. Everything resets to 5 dollars later on. Makes most actions have more weight as wealth is harder to come by.

The Mute Interval

Randomly a moment of silence happens which prevents 1 on 1 events, if already in them when this starts then it skips right to the end. Starts and ends when spending energy.

Evidence Erosion

Every night everybody has to discard 1 piece of evidence randomly they own. This makes hoarding as much evidence as possible worth it, and gives more attention to the trial with collecting evidence there.

Daily Prohibition

This ties into the Taboo selection with the first 20 being actions that become forbidden. It's the same here but nobody can use that activity for any reason.

Influence Gambit

Baccarat uses influence points instead of cash. This makes Emma extremely OP and she will almost always chose this law if she gains the motive bonus.

The Moral Tribunal

This adds a daily vote to give someone an influence point. It shows who likes who overall daily which makes it easier to see who dislikes who.

Unified Purse Doctrine

Individual cash no longer exists and everybody works from the same pool. Baccarat becomes perma-disabled along with the Auction. All spending at the shop is public.

Sealed Records Rule

Evidence can no longer be shared. Unlike Trial of Shadows, evidence can still be gained invidiously. But sharing evidence in the trial is also disabled.

Power Parity

At the start of each trial, it will make everybody as powerful as the most powerful in the room. Let's say everybody as 1 influence point outside Shanks who has 2. Then everybody starts off with 2.

The Daily Rite

Every day a specific and random action must be taken, or else at the end of the night it leaves injuries.

Twin Execution Mandate

Top two people voted for an execution gets executed instead of only 1 execution per trial.

Chaos Misfire

After spending energy for any reason, there is a chance to become injured.

Communal Deceit Penalty

Anytime anybody lies, everybody gets punished with a financial cost.

Influence Substitution Clause

In shops, if you don't have the cash, you can spend an influence point to gain it instead.

Volatile Testimony

The less evidence you start a trial with, the most bonus influence points you gain. So if you have 0 evidence you gain 10 influence points for free.

Anything else?

As you can see, most of these impact influence points and direct actions so it will always be impactful for whatever motive is being used. I think I'm going to have to do more with morning dialogue events next so I don't forget about it. The rest of the motives I don't think will take too much time, it's more of certain ones having some special things to them which might take much longer. So I do want to get certain things out of the way before them so I don't forget.
