Conviction Chronicles blog post #34 - Redesigned dream events and desolation graphics

 This covers some stuff I mentioned before in previous blog posts but in slightly more detail.

Desolation graphics

The desolation graphics are graphics that appear before a character is executed in the first trial. Before it was a black screen and some new graphics had to been made for it. Each protag gets a graphic along with Bianca.

Right now these are only being used for the first trial, but I might consider adding more to the "body exploration" to showcase these graphics of how they react to seeing a body to give it more depth than what it has right now. Still have no idea if it's possible to even do a body discovery graphic animation like danganronpa has with how dynamic the game is without heavily stylizing it, but it's something to think about for me to do later.

Dream events

This is the Nightmare events and such. This includes new graphics for the current dream sequences with the unknown dream figure. I've increased his dialogue count to 76 lines instead of 20 and I added some ways to prevent dialogue from being repeated too often. This is done with the last dialogue to always be stored, so it cannot repeat twice in a row even across games. The second layer keeps a list of every 8 dialogues done and resets after the 8th. This blacklist doesn't carry over across games and if dialogue 1 gets blacklisted, it will prevent 10s or anything that ends in 1 from loading afterwards. This is to make it more simple and to force unique chains. If the player heard 30 before, and then the next chain has 3 starting it off, it won't play 30 again no matter what. 

This is all to give the dream man more personality and definition. 

Dream redesign

The man in the dreams got redesigned from behind a guy in a suit with a weird face to being more of a late night host looking more spectacular. I personally think he looks more like a "tumblr sexy man" with his magician styled outfit and mask. Especially since he wears earrings. I think it's very good overall, and fills some aspects I think would be beneficial. It's overall a massive improvement than what was there before. I actually had no idea he would turn out to have elements of Piercy from P1 in the final design, but I heavily enjoy the direction the artist went with. 

Jade Sleeping

I decided to go with something more cute where she doesn't have to hear the dream man rambling. So now there is a line of dialogue saying goodnight to her, as she is drawn sleeping in a bed surrounded by electric sheep while in a field.

I think it's a nice nod and makes Jade a little more special.

Anything else?

Might be a little bit before the new wakeup call events are completed, most of it is adding more to Mr.Cuddles dialogue when he is on screen. But I will update the demo with the new desolation graphics for the first trial as soon as possible. I do have to error check the dialogue for all of this new stuff, but overall it's good so far.

The steam page's screenshots got updated with some of the new content so you can see the new graphics in action a little bit. There might be too many screenshots uploaded already, but I'll deal with that later. I won't start uploading the new demo until after this is posted, so it might be a little bit of a delay.
